Selection of the most favourable course of the tunnel is carried out on the basis of engineering-geological studies. These aim to predict, in the alternative tunnel courses, the influence of the rock conditions on tunnel blasting, the amount of lining, the site and depth of the adits to the tunnel and the extent of the definitive field studies still to be done before the construction of the tunnel. The economic benefit from the studies can be estimated as a considerable percentage of the total cost of the tunnel driving.
