Type III antipneumococcus rabbit serum was conjugated with [beta]-anthryl isocyanate. The resulting antibody derivative retained undiminished the immunological properties of the original serum (mouse protection tests were not done). In addition the conjugate rendered the specific-organisms fluorescent in u.-v. light both macro- and microscopically, an effect shown not to be due to non-specific adsorption or mechanical occlusion during agglutination. It is proposed to use a similar conjugate for the demonstration of antigenic substances in mammalian tissues.
