The semiclassical treatment used for alkali-rare-gas collisions is extended to the case of the alkaline-earth ions Ca+ and Sr+ perturbed by helium atoms. The calculations are performed for the broadening and shift constants, as well as for the different relaxation constants characterizing the collision. The van der Waals potential and the exchange model potential are used in the calculations and the latter is shown to be predominant for the processes considered. On the other hand, fine structure and non-adiabatic effects are taken into account in the framework of the semiclassical approximation as also are trajectory effects for the cases where only one potential curve is involved. The calculated cross sections are of the same order of magnitude as for the corresponding alkalis and in reasonable agreement with the available experiments.
