The Edwards theory for an entangled (unvulcanised) chain with monomer concentration p, predicts an elastic modulus proportional to ρ3/2. This result may in fact arise from a premature averaging of the effective potential confining the chain. A slightly improved averaging process suggests a ρ2 dependence.RésuméLa théorie d'Edwards pour une chaîne enchevêtrée (non vulcanisée), avec concentration en monomères p, conduit à une rigidité proportionnelle à ρ3/2.
