Degeneration following near total lesions in interposed and dentate nuclei and in caudal fastigius was studied with Nauta silver method in the cat.. The efferent interpositus pathway leaves the cerebellum via the superior peduncle, crosses entirely in decussation of the brachium and forms ascending and descending limbs. The smaller descending limb terminates entirely in tegmental reticular nucleus and adjacent trapezoid nuclei. The ascending limb terminates in the following mesencephalic and diencephalic nuclei[long dash]tegmental reticular formation, ruber, posterior commissure, central gray, Edinger-Westfall, para-fascicular, centromedian, ventral posteromedial, ventral medial, ventral lateral, lateral posterior, ventral posterolateral, reticular, ventral anterior, H1 of Forel, and dorsolateral hypothalamus. The dentate projection, excluding the ventrolateral part of the nucleus, has a similar but somewhat less extensive terminal field. There are small but definite projections from both nuclei to the medulla of the same side via the restiform body. Each fastigial nucleus has three pathways of projection [long dash]direct fastigiobulbar tract in ipsilateral restiform body, indirect fastigiobulbar tract (uncinate fascicles) in contralateral restiform body, and a tract in the crossed brachium conjunctivum to the midbrain and thalamus. The caudal part of fastigius contributes to all three paths, rostral part only to first two paths. Nuclear terminations of these pathways have been described in a previous paper.
