Protoplasts ofSolanum nigrumclones carrying plastid markers and a dihaploidS. tuberosumclone were co-cultured in liquid medium to produce chimaerical cell lines. Plantlets regenerated from these lines were identified as periclinal, sectorial and mericlinal heterospecific chimaeras by morphological and cytological criteria. Plants of all 17 lines were grown to flowering under tissue culture conditions and some also in the greenhouse. Cells of the 2 species were interconnected by secondary plasmodesmata.
