An imaging plate has been applied to pure vanadium to examine the hydrogen distribution, quantitatively. It has been demonstrated that the hydrogen distribution in vanadium can be graphically displayed, and the hydrogen concentration on a grain surface of vanadium has been evaluated. Using this method, tritium radioluminography, hydrogen concentration has been found to vary from grain to grain. The tritium concentrations at the higher and lower tritium concentration are 2 mass ppb and 0.7 mass ppb, under the present charging condition; these values correspond to the protium concentration of 450 mass ppm and 160 mass ppm, respectively. For the photo-stimulated luminescence (PSL) intensity recorded in the imaging plate, most of the intensity is attributed to the β-rays, i.e., the components of the X-rays generated from tritium in the specimen is only 2%.
