Heavy Fermions systems have received much attention from both experimental and theoretical points of view because they exhibit many unusual phenomena due to the competition between the long range RKKY interactions, I(Ri-Rj), and the local negative s-f exchange, J, responsible for the Kondo effect: the ground state can be either magnetic or nonmagnetic depending on the relative strength of these interactions, λ =TK/I (TK≈1/pexp(1/pJ) is the characteristic Kondo energy) [1], which can be varied by applying pressure or alloying. At T=0° K a critical value of λ, λc, separates the two phases and non-Fermi liquid behavior has been observed around λcin many cases [2]. Also in several heavy fermions compounds superconductivity can be stabilized close to this critical point [3]. Since the first paper of Doniach [1] there have been a large number of articles devoted to this problem. The purpose of the present paper is not to give a review on this problem but rather to stress a few points such as the importance of the band filling, the role of intersite exchange interactions and the essential difference between ferro-and antiferromagnetic intersite exchange.
