For the first time, a large sized AZ80-Ag alloy ring was successfully manufactured by hot ring rolling (HRR) at 673 K. The effects of the HRR process and aging treatment on microstructure, texture and mechanical properties were systematically investigated. The microstructure is mainly composed of the equiaxed grains, suggesting the occurrence of dynamic recrystallization. After aging at 448 K for 36 h, considerable discontinuousβ-Mg17Al12precipitates with a small number of continuousβ-Mg17Al12phase. Ag is mainly segregated in theβ-Mg17Al12precipitates. The yield strength along the axial direction is higher than that along the rolling direction, indicating obvious mechanical anisotropy due to the inclination of {0002} basal pole towards the rolling direction. After aging treatment, the yield strength and ultimate tensile strength are enhanced owing to the precipitation ofβ-Mg17Al12phase.
