Tropical pasture research has developed rapidly in the last 20 years, with the introduction of many new pasture species. Whiteman here looks at the effects of climate and various soil properties on different pasture species. He describes their introduction, evaluation, morphology, agronomic characteristics, and adaptations to stress. He also explores the role of pastures in tropical cropping systems and plantation agriculture, and defines the factors controlling nutritive value, intake, and digestibility of pasture species.
