MATERIALS AND METHODSThe effectiveness of the BCNU in protecting patients from bacterial complication was investigated by recording the rate of bacterial contamination and its potential for invasive infection. These rates were then compared with rates of patient protection afforded by two other methods of isolation in common use: single room isolation on a strict isolation burn unit and isolation precautions on an open ward.
