Filtrates of C. histolyticum contain 3 antigenic components; alpha is a lethal and narcotizing toxin, beta is a collagenase, and gamma is a cystein -activated proteinase which attacks altered collagen but not native collagen. Both beta and gamma attack gelatin. Methods for testing antisera for correspond ing antibodies are described.
