In a professional development workshop, we measured mathematical modelling as a performance assessment representing a multidimensional construct where dimensions are established with the performance indicators provided in a rubric. The study showed that a multidimensional non-compensatory psychometric model for scoring mathematical modelling performance provided a statistical model that fit to the assumptions of the mathematical modelling assessment. Empirical results are presented from a mathematical modelling task. We demonstrated that we can identify distinct attribute mastery profiles and provide fine-grained individualized feedback. Performing such analysis for teachers helped us identify professional development needs for teaching mathematical modelling and applications.
