It is known that individuals on maintenance methadone have reduced cold pressor tolerance with no improvement in cold pressor pain tolerance from potent opioids or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs [6]; how this predicts analgesia to potent opioids measured by pain intensity is not known, and neither is it known in the case of buprenorphine.
