Apparent relationships between the sites of various dyskinesias in the human and distribution of pathologic changes within the nuclei of the basal ganglia have led various authors (Vogt arid Vogt, '20; Kleist, '34; Alexander, '42) to postulate somatotopic schema within these structures. Similarly, von SBntha ('32), Martin and Alcock ('34) and Juba and Rakonitz ( '37) have presented evidence of somatotopic arrangements within the subthalamic nucleus in cases of liemiballism. The latter reports suggested a review of the cliiiico-pathologic literature and analysis of experimental data of subthalamic hyperkinesia in the monkey (Whittier and Mettler, '49a, b ; Carpenter, Whittier and Mettler, '50 ; Carpenter and Mettler, '51) to determine what, if any, association exists between the site of dyskinesia and distribution of destruction within the corpus Luysi.
