found in the literature-for each of the components of rat plasma is generally similar to that for dog, human or rabbit plasma. The only consistent differences between rat and other mammalian plasma appear to be in protein and water concentration. For protein the literature average is 5.8 gm/100 ml of rat plasma compared to about 7.0 gm/100 ml for other mammals, while water concentration, which is correspondingly higher in the rat, averages 94.3 gm/100 ml of rat plasma. Use of Chis figure for plasma water concentration permits ionic values to be expressed in mM/Kg plasma H20, as shown in Table 1, column 2.
