The structure of a new ciguatoxin congener, CTX3C (1), isolated from cultures of a dinoflagellate Gambierdiscus toxicus was elucidated mainly on the basis of NMR data. 1 closely resembles gambiertoxin-4b (2), a known ciguatoxin precursor, but lacks the butadiene side chain in 2 and has oxocene ring E instead of oxopene in 2.
