Cabbage (cv. Ernando) seeds were individually sorted into 4 subsamples based on their chlorophyll fluorescence signals (low, medium, high or very high). The magnitude of the chlorophyll fluorescence signal was inversely related to seed quality, expressed as germination percentage, percentage of normal seedlings, germination rate (time to 50% germination (T50)) and uniformity of germination (T75-T25). It was possible to increase the percentage of normal seedlings in a seed lot from 90 to 97% by removing seeds with very high chlorophyll fluorescence signals (13.2% of seeds). The chlorophyll fluorescence technique is a highly sensitive, rapid, non-destructive method for sorting seeds.
