We performed functional gene screening, using a siRNA library targeting 8,500 human genes, to identify proteins that are involved in the susceptibility of cells to inethylinercury. Screening revealed that downregulation of the gene for phosphatidylinositol glycan class B (PIGB) by siRNA confers resistance to methylmercury in HEK293 cells.
