Now researchers are hoping that by measuring a new indicator, prostate specific antigen (PSA), they can provide earlier and more accurate diagnoses, as well as better information on patients' responses to treatment. In 1991, an Ohio State researcher, Joseph Drago, MD, found that PSA levels above 10 ng/ml were associated with 60% of the cancers in his study, which evaluated PSA, DRE, and TRUS as diagnostic tools.
