The contraction responses of arterial rings to KCl and phenylephrine were studied in rats following tail suspension to simulate weightlessness. The abdominal aorta, femoral artery, and common carotid artery were studied. Results indicated that contraction responses were altered in the hindquarter only, and this finding may provide a clue to the mechanisms involved in postflight orthostatic intolerance.
