FOR infinitely diluted suspensions of rigid spheres, Einstein1derived on a rigorously theoretical basis the formula η = η0(1 +kc),... (1) where η is the viscosity of the suspension, η0is the viscosity of the pure solvent, cis the concentration by volume andk= 2·5 is a constant. It has been shown that (1) is also valid for non-spherical particles, the factorkbeing a function of their shape, rigidity and Brownian movement. For elongated rigid particles,k> 2·5.
