A two-dimensional (2D) Stokes parameter method for measuring the cell properties of reflective liquid crystal (LC) cells is proposed. Relationships between the Stokes parameters of the reflected light from the reflective LC cell and the thickness of the LC layer are given by Jones matrix representation. The hyperfine cell thickness distributions can be determined by measuring Stokes parameters of the LC cell and solving Stokes parameter equations. Moreover, these values are discussed and compared with those of the transmissive-type LC cell.
