Comments on the MP Bryden et al (see record 1995-20380-001) criticism of the Geschwind-Behan-Galaburda (GBG) model of cerebral lateralization described by N. Geschwind and PO Behan (1982) and by Geschwind and AM Galaburda (1987). Bryden et al fail to address the propositional content of the GBG theory at an analytical level. SL Small and GE Hoffman address the propositional content of the GBG theory in the context of the review by Bryden et al of its supporting statistical evidence. The discussion focuses on (1) a postulated reason for cerebral lateralization involving the computational needs for sequential processing and high bandwidth communication among multiple related sources of information and (2) the etiologic role of neonatal testosterone in producing lateralization.(PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2020 APA, all rights reserved)
