Radish mosaic virus (RaMV) is a member of the genus Comovirus of the family Comoviridae [9]. Comoviruses have two positive-, single-stranded genomic RNAs (RNA1 and RNA2), which are encapsidated into separate spherical virions. RaMV mainly infects cruciferous plants, unlike most members of the genus Comovirus, which predominantly infect plants of the Leguminosae family. RaMV was originally identified in California, USA, in 1939 [12], but its occurrence has also been reported in Europe, Japan, Asia, and Africa [4, 6, 10, 11]. Recently, we determined the genome sequence of a Japanese isolate of RaMV (RaMV-J) and suggested that non-legume-infecting comoviruses, including RaMV, are distantly related to legume-infecting comoviruses [8]. Interestingly, the genetic variability of RaMV has not been examined except for the RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp) sequence comparisons between RaMV-J and a Czech RaMV isolate (RaMV1). Despite exhibiting similar host ranges and symptomatology to RaMV-J [3], information on the genome sequence of the California isolate of RaMV is lacking. Here, we report the complete genome sequence of both RNA1 and RNA2 of a
