Secoiridoid glucosides were extracted from dried and ground leaves ofFraxinus excelsior, viz., oleuropein (1), ligstroside (2), excelsioside (3) and GI 5 (4). The chemical structures of this compound were elucidated based on their UV, ESIMS,1H and13C NMR data with published data. This is the first report on the occurrence of the dimeric secoiridoid glucoside GI 5 inF. excelsior. The occurrence of compounds 1-3 is considered as a characteristic feature of the genusFraxinusand also of the family of Oleaceae.
