In that case-control study, the odds ratio of developing ovarian cancer among women who used paracetamol at least once a week for at least 6 months was 0.52 compared with never users, and the lowest risk was found for women who used the drug daily and for more than 10 years. Suggested biological mechanisms included an antigonadotropic effect of paracetamol as evidenced by genital atrophy observed in mice fed with high levels of paracetamol.
