APhakopsorafungus was found onBreynia cernua(Phyllanthaceae) in northern Queensland and Northern Territory, Australia. The fungus formed subcuticular spermogonia andMilesia-type aecia together withMilesia-type uredinia and typical phakopsoroid telia on the same or separate plants. No autoecious, macrocyclicPhakopsoraspecies was previously known onBreynia. Aeciospores and urediniospores were apically thick-walled and bore several scattered germ pores. In addition to ordinary urediniospores and teliospores, the fungus formed one-celled, dark-colored, thick-walled, laterally free spores in the uredinia. Apically thick-walled urediniospores, produced in theMilesia-type uredinia, with several scattered germ pores and the regular production of one-celled, free teliospore-like spores in the uredinia characterize this fungus. Thus, it is proposed as a new species,P. breyniae.
