‘A! transition. The influence of the H-bonded nitrate ions in reducingthe rotatory strengthat 295 K, as well as producing a large temperature dependence, has been described elsewhere. The outer sphere nitrate ions are also responsible for structural phase changes in both the protonated and deuterated complexes. Optical crystallography, single-crystal Raman, and CD spectra have been used to establish the microscopic and macroscopic nature of the structural phases.
