Lattice Dynamical Systems (LDS) form a class of extended systems that is intermediate between partial differential equations and cellular automata. Although introduced rather recently, LDS have already helped to clarify some vague notions and ideas that form the basis of the modern phenomenological theory of spatio-temporal dynamics. We discuss some rigorous results that have been obtained in this area.
