The syntype specimens of Ilyocypris dentifera Sars, 1903 and Ilyocypris angulata Sars, 1903 were reexamined to reevaluate whether they are two different species or variants of the same species. The discussion on taxonomic discrimination, using the morphology of valves and appendages leads to the conclusion that both I. dentifera and I. angulata are variants of a single taxon. As first revisers, the authors select the name Ilyocypris dentifera to have precedence over Ilyocypris angulata. Lectotype and paralectotype are designated for I. dentifera and a detailed redescription is provided. The form angulata is also illustrated to compare the similarities and differences observed both in the valve and appendage morphology.
