As originally reported by Jonathan Braun [11] and Moncef Zouali [12], the CD4bs overlaps, and is part of, a B-cell superantigen, against which adaptive humoral immune responses are disfavored. More specifically, the Paul laboratory has recently shown that initial IgM responses to this superantigen routinely fail to mature into high affinity IgA and IgG antibodies [13].
