§ I Introduction. In the study of the large time behavior of parabolic equations, the establishment of a priori L~ bounds plays a central role. It allows one, among other things, to obtain global existence of solutions and often compactness of the orbits. The purpose of this paper is to apply a method (whose essential features were introduced in Alikakos [I]) iterative in P nature, for establishing L. bounds (p=+-. included) from known L~ bounds (q< p). As a rule, this method allows us, to prove that a solution which is bounded as a function of the time in a L 1 space is actually bounded in the usual sense. The L'boundedness is an assumption on the initial data and in general is not possibleCopyright O 1979 by Marcel Dekker, Inc. All Rights Reserved.
