A 78-year-old man experienced a 3-week episode of mild abdominal pain and watery diarrhea. Radiographs showed an edematous mucosal lesion of the rectosigmoid area. Proctologic and histologic examinations revealed typical changes of ischemic colitis. Serial biopsies showed evolution from acute hemorrhagic necrosis to a regenerative mucosal pattern that persisted after the sigmoidoscopic appearance returned to normal.
