Therates of reaction of a number of nucleophiles with methyl iodide and ira/u-[Pt (py) 2Cl2] havebeen measured in methyl alcohol at 25. Relative nucleophilicreactivity parameters, zzCH3i and nPt, have been calculated. It was not found possible to correlate these numbers with each other or with other extra-kinetic data. Equa-tions in the literature for predicting nucleophilic reactivity have only a limited range of usefulness.
