Measurements of C14-leucine incorporation into liver glutamic-alanine transaminase in normal and prednisolone-treated rats has proved a direct demonstration of a severalfold greater rate of biosynthesis of the enzyme in the hormone-treated animals. The elevated rate of synthesis precedes and leads to the increase in the steady-state tissue level of the enzyme consequent to hormone administration. The half-life of the enzyme has been determined and found to be 3.5 days in normal animals and 1.2 days in prednisolone-treated animals.
