A study is described of the kinetics of the following series of reactions in benzene and dimethylform-amide, f/ww-IrX (CO)(PPh3) 2+ YZ-*· IrXYZ (C0)(PPh3) 2, where X=Cl, Br, and I and YZ= H2, 02, and CHal. The kinetics, in each case, were found toobey the second-order rate law, rate=£ 2 [IrX (CO)(PPh3) 2][YZ]. The kinetic patterns of the reactions with H2 and 02 were very similar. The activation parameters for these reactions, in benzene, were all in the range AH*= 10.8 to 13.1 kcal/mole and AS*=—14 to—24 eu. In each case the de-
