In the inaugural year of the Annals, our forebears struggled with the question of determining the molecular mechanisms of successful allergy immunotherapy (AIT). I can end this commentary now with the simple statement that it is 80 years later and we are still struggling with the same question.What is intriguing and worthy of commentary, however, is how much these investigators got right and to paraphrase the Ecclesiastes quote from the above title,“there truly is nothing new under the sun.” It is also particularly pleasing that the authors of this work were both faculty members at the New England Medical Center, a location where this commentator would later assume his first faculty appointment some 40 years later.
