The present paper reviews our knowledge of the creeping diseases and presents further studies on the etiology of creeping eruption. The term" creeping eruption" has been used for a myiasis of the human skin caused by the migration of Gastrophilus larvae. It is used, also, for creeping diseases of the skin from which no parasites were recovered. The latter group includes most of the cases reported in the literature (Tamura, 37, and Austmann, l). f It includes the case first described by Lee of England in 1875 and another case reported by him (19). The disease discussed in the present paper is one from which macroscopic parasites were not recovered. In this respect and in others it appears identical to Lee's disease. Since the name" creeping eruption" is used in Florida and other South Atlantic and Gulf Coast States, Kirby-Smith, Dove and White (17) suggest that this name be retained for the creeping disease of this geographical area.
