Objective:To study the intraspecific variance of safflower at molecular level, providing the basis for molecular identification among germplasms of Carthamus tinctorius L. . Methods: The genetic diversities and the relationship among 22 cultivars of safflower (Carthamus tinctorius L. ) from 9 provinces of China were analyzed by randomly amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) technique and statistical methods. Results: The 22 cultivars were divided into 7 groups based on the characteristic maps of RAPD and cluster analysis. Conclusion: There are intraspecific variances in safflower. The results provide a basis for identification and genetic relationship study among cultivars of Carthamus tinctorius L. .
