Hongwei Thorn Chen is a PhD candidate in the department of Cultural Studies and Comparative Literature at the University of Minnesota. His dissertation examines the link between technological media and educational discourse in China and globally from the 1930s to the 1940s. He has presented his work at the Society of Cinema and Media Studies conference and has been the recipient of the Social Science Research Council International Dissertation Research Fellowship, which supported his research in China and the United States during the 2014 2015 academic year.
