The article reports on a study in Great Britain which focused on leadership type and corporate performance in the service industries. Firms were classified by their leadership type: family, entrepreneur, or professional management. The entrepreneur-led organizations financially outperformed the other types of leadership. The worst performing companies were led by professional managers. The family-led business enterprises were ranked about average. Statistics are given for the educational background, military service, and club membership of company chairmen. Data is also given for relationships between leadership type and corporate acquisition rate, acquisition type and rate, and level of international activity and leadership type.
