This paper describes the prediction of traffic conditions for the Nagano Olympic Winter Games, using the traffic simulator NETSTREAM (NETwork Simulator for TRaffic Efficiency And Mobility). Three types of OD (origin-destination) flows, daily, visitors' and officials', are estimated respectively, and are used as the input data of NETSTREAM. The traffic simulation is carried out under total demand control and traffic restrictions for the official vehicles' exclusive use. The simulation results were actually used for the publicity of the total demand control to the residents of Nagano-city, and for the design of signal timing. Moreover, the simulation results are verified using observed traffic data during the Olympics. About link traffic volumes, the simulation results and the observation agree well. About traffic jam lengths and travel times, however, they differ on specific roads. For the covering abstract see IRRD E102946.
