Genome editing is a site-directed modification technology for target genome, whose major method is to modify target genome for the purpose of studying the gene with unknown functions and conducting gene therapy. The genome editing technology mediated by artificial endonuclease have evolved into the most promising technology at present, including ZFNs、TALENs and CRISPR/Cas technologies. In this paper, a brief introduction is given to three different principles of genome editing technologies to compare their advantages and disadvantages. In addition, the research status concerning the editing technologies for the genomes of different creatures has been summarized to explore its application in animal disease model and speculate on the application prospect of the technology in gene therapy of diseases.
