A study was made of the reaction rates of the enzyme tyrosinase obtained from the egg of the grasshopper, Melanoplus differentialis. Activators of the enzyme which have been employed oleate, a natural activator, temp., ethyl urethane, urea and acetone. Activation and injury of the enzyme occurred simultaneously and this in turn seemed dependent upon the activator in question. Critical point, or maintenance of max. activity of the enzyme, could be demonstrated for all activators. Ideas were expressed as to the possible modes of activation.
