It is the purpose of this chapter to review the procedures that are currently used to investigate fear learning in humans as well as the basic methodologies used for the measurement of experimentally induced fear. Recent research on fear learning in neuroscience, animal behavior, and human conditioning has provided a number of exciting findings that should stimulate interest in the area of human fear learning. Having at our disposal a better, more elaborate, and less confound-prone set of methodologies and measures and an improved knowledge of basic conditioning as informed by research in neuroscience and animal behavior, we are currently in a better position to understand the acquisition and maintenance of human fear than ever before.(PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2024 APA, all rights reserved)
