The well-known bioluminescence system of fireflies requires 5 components for the emission of light, ie, firefly luciferin, firefly luciferase, ATP, Mg2+ and O2 [11. It is a useful system for assaying ATP, and has been widely employed in various fields of research for this purpose [2].
