In 2002, powdery mildew was observed onC. betulusin Kraków, Poland. The symptoms included white, amphigenous mycelium covering the upper surface and less frequently, the lower surface of the young and old leaves of the host plants. Morphological analysis identified the causal organism asO. carpini. This is thought to be the first report of the fungal pathogen in Poland.
