The objective this research was to evaluate the feasibility of using Cryptomeria japonica wood, pure or mixed with the wood of Pinus spp for the production of particleboard. The boards were produced in the proportions of 0, 20, 40, 60, 80 e 100% of particles of Cryptomeria japonica in relation of Pinus spp., using urea-formaldehyde resin at 8% solids, based on oven dry weight of the particles. 3 boards were produced by treatment, which were pressed at a temperature of 160°C, pressure of 4 MPa for 8 minutes. The technological properties evaluated were density (EN 323:2002); compression ratio of the panels; water absorption and thickness swelling after 2 and 24 hours of immersion (EN 317:2002); internal bond (EN 319:2002); static bending (EN 310:2002) and pullout resistance of the screw (NBR 14810:2006).The results were analyzed by Grubbs test, Bartlett test, Shapiro Wilks test, ANOVA and Tukey test and indicated that the low density of Cryptomeria japonica wood increased the compaction ratio of the panels and contributed to improve its mechanical properties and dimensional stability. Furthermore, from normative requirements, the feasibility of using Cryptomeria japonica wood, in pure form or mixed with wood of Pinus spp for the production of particleboard was verified.
