Even though there was no inherent medical system developed in Taiwan, the western medical educations and techniques were introduced during the Japanese-ruled period and were gradually established under KMT's reigning. Thus, the transition and the confrontation between different colonizations granted the Taiwanese societies their uniqueness and complexities in every respect when compared with other countries, especially in the dentistry. In this article, we would like to discuss the developments of the dentistry in Taiwan for the past 100 years under distinct governing powers and the evolution prior and post the World War II in the perspectives of education, politics and so on.
